Frequently asked questions
When should I read the Krishna Chalisa?
You can read it on any day. Janmashtami, Ekadashi and the month of Kartik are traditionally considered especially auspicious. Many devotees read it every morning or evening while serving Laddu Gopal.
How should I recite the Krishna Chalisa on Janmashtami?
Many devotees fast, bathe and dress the Kanha idol in the evening, offer butter, sugar candy and tulsi, light a lamp and read the Chalisa. Many families also sing it with the aarti at midnight, the hour of his birth.
What benefits are believed to come from it?
Devotees believe that reading it with love brings joy and deeper devotion, and Kanha's grace. Through the stories of Sudama, Vidur and Meera, the Chalisa itself teaches that God is reached by true love, not by show.
